Number of missing or murdered Native women increases
The number of missing or murdered Native women has risen in Canada, according to a new report from the Native Women's Association of Canada.

As of March 21, 2010, Canada has 582 known cases of missing or murdered Native women and girls. That's an increase of 62 cases from last year.

Of the cases, 115 involve missing women and girls, 393 involve women or girls who died as a result of homicide or negligence and 21 cases are "suspicious" death. In the remaining 53 cases, it's unclear whether the woman was murdered, is missing or died in suspicious circumstances, according to NWAC.

The report said 53 percent of cases in which Native women were murdered resulted in homicide charges, compared to 84 percent of cases nationwide.
