Shooting leaves Oneida man dead, nephew in intensive care
An Oneida Nation man was killed and his nephew was seriously injured in a bizarre shooting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Danny John, 29, was shot and killed on May 9 after some sort of confrontation with Jesus C. Gonzalez, 23, who is well known in the state for openly carrying a handgun. John's nephew, Jered Corn, 21, was also shot and remains in intensive care.

"The bullet entered his neck and lodged in his spinal canal," his father, Chris Hill, John's brother, told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He can move his arms but he's paralyzed from his chest down, for now. We're hoping for the best."

John was a member of the Oneida Bear Clan and was the lead singer in the Eagle Singers Drum Group and loved drumming and dancing at powwows. He also had Stockbridge-Munsee heritage.

Gonzalez has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He said he fired on John and Corn because he was being attacked.
