BIA doesn't want to interfere in Dry Creek leadership dispute
The Bureau of Indian Affairs says it won't get involved in a recall of the leader of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians of California.

Harvey Hopkins, 62, was ousted in a 165-85 vote in May. He says the election was invalid and he's asked the BIA to continue to recognize him as chairman.

"This is an internal matter they have to resolve," superintendent Troy Burdick told The Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Two council members started the recall because they said he denied them access to records. They also said they were tired of Hopkins challenging the membership of certain people.

But Hopkins, 62, said he's still in charge despite the vote. “I am still the chairman,” he told the paper. “Clearly, I haven't given up my seat.”
