Two candidates so far for Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara chairman
In 2006, 17 people filed to run for chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota, The Bismarck Tribune reports.

This year, only two people have filed: incumbent chairman Marcus Levings and former chairman Tex Hall. The deadline is August 10 so it's possible more candidates might emerge.

Levings defeated Hall in 2006. Hall was seeking a third term in office.

Earlier this month, Levings backed out of his re-election bid. But he jumped back into the race after he said elders urged him to run.

Hall s wasn't planning on running either but he said he was motivated by others to get involved.
