North Dakota tribes receive $1.8M in grants to battle diabetes
North Dakota tribes and the Indian Health Service received $1.8 million in grants to treat and prevent diabetes.

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians received $729,226. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe received $624,234. The Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation received $452,673 and the IHS in Fort Yates received $50,000.

“Diabetes is a huge health problem in this country, and the number of people with diabetes keeps growing,” Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) said in a press release. “I am happy to have been able to help direct funding where it’s needed to combat this serious health condition, and will continue to work to strengthen those efforts.”

The money came from the Special Diabetes Program for Indians, which is due for Congressional reauthorization.
