Allen Dale June, one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers, died on Wednesday in Arizona. He was 91.
June served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He was part of the initial group of Navajo Nation soldiers who developed an unbreakable code using the Navajo language.
"The Navajo Nation lost a great warrior," Navajo Nation Council Speaker Lawrence T. Morgan said in a statement. "His unique service to his country brought positive attention to the Navajo Nation. He will be missed."
Only two of the original Code Talkers are still alive. About 300 more Navajo soldiers followed i their footsteps during World War II.
