Navajo Nation warns chapter about interfering with Shiprock Fair
The Navajo Nation is warning one of its chapters not to take over the upcoming Shiprock Navajo Fair.

The Navajo Nation Department of Justice said the Shiprock Chapter's attempt to run the large event could put the tribe at legal risk. A memorandum cited by The Farmington Daily Times said the chapter lacked local governance certification.

Shiprock Navajo Fair, the group that has run the event since 1995, is disputing the chapter's interference. The group says it is still in charge and is collecting fees for the October 2 parade.

The event attracts upwards of 100,000 people but people in the chapter say they don't see much financial benefit. They also don't like cleaning up after the fair.
