Tulalip Tribes introduce wild turkeys to reservation for hunting
The Tulalip Tribes of Washington introduced wild turkeys to the reservation last month.

The tribe released about 170 turkeys in hopes of developing a harvestable population. The first hunt could take place in about a year.

“Having wild turkeys right here on the reservation also could engage tribal youth who haven’t been exposed to our hunting culture," Ray Fryberg Sr., the tribe's fish and wildlife director, told The Everett Herald.

The tribe hopes to introduce other game birds, such as quail, grouse and pheasant, to the reservation in the future.
