First Nation won't comment on alleged $250K payment to worker
Members of the Fort McKay First Nation in Alberta want to know whether an employee received a $250,000 bonus but Chief Jim Boucher won't comment due to privacy laws.

Band members say Lisa Schaldemose, the executive director of the Fort McKay Industry Relations Corporation, received the payment after she was told she was going to lose her job in nine months. They held a protest outside the tribal offices on Wednesday to demand answers.

"We could have had social programs here for our people that can't get jobs due to addiction problems. There could have been more social programs put into this place for our people," Madeline Delisle told CBC News. "And then give bonuses like that to outside people who I don't even know?"

Boucher said Schaldemose's salary information is protected by privacy laws.
