A North Dakota man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and failure to update sex offender registration.
Deven J. Poitra, 19, was found guilty by a jury for the December 2009 assault of a child. The incident took place on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa Reservation.
Judge Daniel L. Hovland sentenced Poitra to 30 years on the abuse charge and 10 years on the registration charge. The sentences will run concurrently.
Poitra was convicted in state court of a sex offense in April 2007.
