Saginaw Chippewa man was asked to take tribal logo off Facebook
A member of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan says he was asked to remove the tribe's logo from a Facebook page he created.

Martin Curry, a former graphic design artist for the Tribal Observer, the tribe's newspaper, created the unofficial Sag Chip and Tribal Observer pages. But he was apparently asked by tribal leaders not to use the tribe's official logo.

"It's like telling Americans, you can't use the American flag. I just find that ridiculous," Curry told The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun.

The logo is no longer on Curry's Facebook but on Sunday, he posted that he filed documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the names "Sag Chip; Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe And Tribal Observer."

The effort might conflict with the tribal council's bid to patent the tribal logo and the phrase "Working Together For Our Future" for its own use.
