Turtle Mountain Chippewa man convicted of sexual abuse of minor

A member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of North Dakota was found guilty for sexually abusing a child under 12 years old.

John Wallette, 35, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years in prison and a maximum of life behind bars.

Although the charge only involved one victim, the U.S. Attorney's Office in North Dakota, said evidence produced a trial indicated that Wallette abused other children at a youth shelter facility on the reservation.
