Youth from Cowichan Tribes on high alert after death of teenager

Youth from the Cowichan Tribes of British Columbia are taking extra precautions following the death of an 18-year-old girl.

Tyeshia Jones apparently took a shortcut on her way to meet some friends before she went missing. Her body was found in a remote area on January 28.

"A lot of the kids aren't going out at night anymore," Joe Thorne, a tribal member who sits on the local town council, told The Victoria Times Colonist. "And if they do after school hours, they're travelling in pairs."

Authorities haven't released details about the nature of Jones' death but have ruled it a homicide.
