Shoshone woman jailed for trying to cash OST check at Walmart

Terri Wise, a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, is suing Walmart after she was arrested for trying to cash her trust fund check, The Ultimate Aldine reports.

Wise tried to cash the check at the Walmart in Aldine, Wyoming, on January 7. Employees called the police because they suspected the check was bad even though it apparently bore the seal of the U.S. Treasury and was issued through the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians.

Wise said she was strip searched in jail and kept from her diabetes medication. She is seeking actual and exemplary damages, along with attorney’s fees and court costs, the paper reported.
