IHS wants youth treatment center on D-Q University campus

The Indian Health Service wants to build a youth treatment center on part of the D-Q University campus in California.

The $17 million facility would take up 12 acres of the 642-acre campus. It would provide substance abuse services to Indian youth ages 12 to 17.

IHS is negotiating with D-Q University to buy the land. If everything works out, construction would begin within 18 to 24 months and the facility would open in mid-2004.

D-Q University, California's only tribal college, lost its accreditation 2005.
