Lummi Nation extends deadline in negotiations over ferry lease

The Lummi Nation is close to a deal with Whatcom County in Washington for a lease to host the Lummi Island ferry.

The tribe placed an April 10 deadline on negotiations but pushed it back to May 15. "Substantial progress" has been made towards a deal, the tribe said in a press release, The Bellingham Herald reported.

The ferry dock is located on the reservation. The tribe has said it wants to address traffic and infrastructure in a lease.
