Editorial: Great potential in Saginaw Chippewa Tribe water park

"By the summer of 2012, the Mt. Pleasant area will likely have a new attraction to entertain both local families and visitors from throughout the state.

Work has begun to build a water park, owned by Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, at the site of the former Soaring Eagle Inn/Holiday Inn near the M-20-U.S. 127 interchange.

The water park, promoted as the largest water park in the state, is expected to take 12 to 14 months to complete, with a targeted opening date of summer 2012. The project will have more than 240 hotel rooms, as well as a restaurant.

This project has great potential.

For local residents, it can offer something fun to do close to home. With gas prices increasing, it's nice to have entertainment options close to home."
