Utah fields 10 candidates for vacant Indian Affairs position

The Utah Division of Indian Affairs will soon have a new director.

Gov. Gary Herbert (R) fired Forrest Cuch, who ran the office for 13 years, in February. Tribes demanded an apology for Herbert's handling of the situation but he said he fired Cuch for being "insubordinate."

Ten candidates have filed for the job and will be in Utah today for interviews. The Ute Tribe, of which Cuch is a member, has declined to participate in the process.

The new director is expected to be on the job by next month.
