Shelly Crow, former second chief of Muscogee Nation, dies at 63

Shelly Crow, the first woman to serve as second chief of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, died on Monday. She was 63.

Crow served the tribe as second chief from 1992 to 1996 under Bill Fife. She made an unsuccessful run for chief in 1995.

"She was a strong lady," Fife told Newson6.com. "She always did what she felt was right, and was involved with a lot of health issues that helped our tribe."

"I spoke with her a lot -- about every week. I lost a good friend," current Chief A.D. Ellis told The Tulsa World.
