Yurok Tribe developing legislation for federal land transfer

The Yurok Tribe of California is developing legislation to authorize a federal land transfer.

The tribe is eyeing 1,204 acres within Redwood National Park and another 285 acres of federal property. The land was once part of the reservation.

”It's stop and go, and a slow process -- something we're still working on, but we're moving forward,” analyst Troy Fletcher told The Eureka Times-Standard of the tribe's effort to address concerns about the swap.

The tribe plans to preserve the land and will use it for traditional hunting, fishing and gathering.
