Standing Rock Sioux Tribe spared from Missouri River floods

It looks like the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will be spared from major flooding along the Missouri River but officials are still taking steps to safeguard the reservation.

Water levels on Lake Oahe are higher than normal. But so far, tribal headquarters in Fort Yates have been safe, along with Sitting Bull's burial site and the Indian Health Service facility.

The tribe reached out to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers early on to address potential flooding on the river. The agency is releasing record amounts of water to deal with runoff from heavy spring snowmelt and rains.
