Mississippi Choctaw chief and top rival head to run-off in July

The chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and his main rival are headed to a run-off on July 11, The Jackson Clarion-Ledger reports.

Incumbent Beasley Denson received 1,598 votes in the tribe's election on Tuesday, according to unofficial results. Phyliss J. Anderson, who wants to be the first woman to lead the tribe, was second with 872 votes.

Since Denson hasn't received 50 percent of the vote plus one, a run-off will be scheduled.
