Miko Denson: Mississippi Choctaw election corrupted by outsiders

"Voting irregularities and potential foul play in the June 14 Tribal Elections were brought to the attention of the Tribal Election Commission by unbiased petitioners. Because the Tribal Election Commission refused to act upon multiple protocol failures, independent, unbiased Tribal members appealed to the Tribal Council. Upon review of the facts, the Tribal Council voted to overturn the results of the June 14 election and require a new election for Chief and for Pearl River Tribal Council.

Contrary to Phyllis Anderson’s earlier statement, it was Phyllis Anderson and Kevin Edwards who forced the tie-breaking vote that was cast by Miko Denson on this issue. The Tribal member petitioners requested that the Tribal Council members who were candidates for Chief in the June 14 election recuse themselves from voting. Phyllis Anderson and Kevin Edwards refused to recuse themselves. Had they done so, the vote to overturn the June 14 election would have been 8-6 in favor of overturning the election, which would not have triggered Miko’s vote. The minutes of the July 8 Tribal Council meeting will reflect this."
