Navajos, Cherokees outnumber other tribes in Nevada county

Clark County in southern Nevada is home to two tribes but people who identify themselves as Navajo and Cherokee outnumber them, according to the 2010 Census.

Some 1,428 members of the Navajo Nation live in the county. The Cherokee Nation came in second, with 946 members.

In 2000, there were more Cherokees in the county than Navajos, The Las Vegas Sun reported. Otherwise, the county is home to the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe and the Moapa Paiute Tribe.

Overall, 2.1 percent of the population in Nevada is American Indian or Alaska Native.
