Mississippi Choctaws head into final stretch of chief campaign

Members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will head to the polls on Tuesday to choose a new chief.

Phyliss J. Anderson was declared the winner of a June 14 election. She defeated incumbent Beasley Denson but the results were thrown out by the tribal council.

The tribe scheduled a rematch and another candidate, Shirley Martin Berg, joined the race. All three hopefuls have been pushing hard for votes as election day approaches.
