Justice Department awards $118.4M in Indian Country grants

The Department of Justice announced $118.4 million in grants to tribal governments.

The money was awarded through the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation program. Tribes are able to submit a single application for most grants at DOJ rather than deal with multiple agencies and deadlines.

"Grants have been given to enhance law enforcement practices and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts in eight purpose areas: public safety and community policing; methamphetamine enforcement; justice systems and alcohol and substance abuse; corrections and correctional alternatives; violence against women; elder abuse; juvenile justice; and tribal youth programs," Associate Attorney General Tom Perrelli said at the Four Corners Indian Country Conference yesterday, according to a transcript of his remarks.

This is the second year of grants under CTAS. A full list of awardees can be found at www.justice.gov/tribal/awards.html.
