Pokagon Band heralds 17th anniversary of federal recognition

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians in Michigan will celebrate the 17th anniversary of its federal recognition.

The tribe was restored to recognition by an act of Congress in August 1994. The law capped off a long struggle that saw the tribe lose tens of thousands of acres of its land.

The tribe will celebrate with a Sovereignty Day concert on Friday and activities for its members on Saturday.
