Supreme Court won't take Santa Clara Pueblo immunity case

The U.S. Supreme Court last week denied a petition in Reed v. Guiterrez, a sovereign immunity case.

Peggy Reed sued Santa Clara Pueblo and one of its employees, Robert Gutierrez. She said the tribe was liable for an accident involving Gutierrez, who was driving a tribal-owned vehicle off the reservation.

The New Mexico courts ruled against Reed, holding that the tribe was immune from the lawsuit. Without comment, the justices declined to hear the case.
