Site aims to keep Alutiiq language alive for new generations

A new website aims to keep the Alutiiq language alive for new generations.

Only 15 people are fluent in the language. So the Afognak Native Corporation, Koniag Inc. and the Alutiiq Museum created Alutiiq Learner.

"So for our kids to be able to learn, that is really important for them to be able to see the world through Alutiiq eyes," Shauna Hegna told KTUU-TV.

Organizers recently won a grant from the Administration for Native Americans to keep the site going.
