Officials worried about increased sightings of isolated tribe

Officials in Peru are concerned about an increase in sightings of an isolated tribe.

A year ago this month, Survival International released the first known photos of the Mashco-Piro Tribe, whose members live in the Manu National Park. Since then, the tribe has been linked to two bow and arrow attacks, including one that killed an Indian man who had previously been friendly with the Mashco-Piro.

On Tuesday, Survival International released even more photos, a sign of the tribe's increased contacts. Officials worry the tribe is being pushed out of the park by loggers.

"The situation is incredibly delicate," Beatriz Huerta, an anthropologist for the government, told the Associated Press.
