Remains not at French and Indian War site despite 'reburial'

On Memorial Day in 1993, tribal leaders, local officials and British dignitaries took part in a "reburial" ceremony to honor soldiers that were killed at a French and Indian War site in Lake George, New York.

But the owners of the site never told attendees that only three of the 15 mostly complete remains were actually buried at the site. The bones have been in the hands of archaeologists in Arizona -- and even in Canada -- for more than a decade.

“Why don’t they do the right thing and get them back?” Randy Patten, a French and Indian War re-enactor, told the AP.

The remains at the site were of British soldiers who were at war with the French. Both sides had Native allies.

Lake George was the setting for the Last of the Mohicans.
