Public ceremony and celebration for late Richard Milanovich

A remembrance ceremony and a celebration of life are being held today in honor of Richard Milanovich, who was the longtime chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians of California.

The ceremony begins at 10am, Pacific Time. The Palm Springs Desert Sun said 17 people, including Gov. Jerry Brown (D) and Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R), will speak at the event at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

A celebration of Milanovich's life begins at noon and will last two hours. The Desert Sun will be providing regular updates from both events.

Milanovich died on March 11. He was 69.
