Man sentenced for trying to divert Shingle Springs Band mail

A California man was sentenced to three months for trying to divert mail for the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.

Cesar Caballero, 42, was found guilty last August of three misdemeanor counts of mail obstruction. He submitted change of address forms for the tribal headquarters and the tribal casino in order to divert mail to his home.

Caballero has already served time in connection with the crime, The Sacramento Bee reports. He just spent 2 1/2 months in jail for disobeying the judge, who issued contempt orders.

Caballero has been feuding with the tribe for years. He claims the current membership of the Shingle Springs Band does not descend from the historic tribe.
