GAO reportedly looks at funding for state recognized tribes

The Government Accountability Office is reportedly looking into federal funds that are provided to state recognized tribes.

Rep. Dan Boren (D-Oklahoma) reportedly asked for the study. A draft was completed but his office declined to release it to The Oklahoman.

One impetus for the study appears to be the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, which recently received ore than $13 million in federal housing funds. The award dwarfs the amounts given to federally recognized tribes.
