Shoshone-Bannock Tribes win ruling against non-Indian firm

A non-Indian company doing business on the Fort Hall Reservation must pay regulatory fees to the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, the Idaho Court of Appeals ruled on Friday.

FMC Corp. agreed to pay $1.5 million a year in storage fees to the tribe. The company tried to back out but the court upheld the arrangement.

"Business conducting activities within the reservation need to understand they are subject to our laws," Chairmna Nathan Small told The Idaho State Journal.

FMC previously challenged the tribe's jurisdiction but lost in federal court.
