Bishop Paiute Tribe hosts U.S. Attorney's Office on reservation

The Bishop Paiute Tribe hosted representatives from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California last month.

Federal prosecutors learned more about the tribe's court and its justice systems. Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Laurel White praised the tribe for working with local law enforcement and with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The tribe was at the center of a high-profile sovereignty case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003. Armed with bolt cutters, county sheriff's deputies went to the tribe's casino and seized records from the facility.
