Navajo Nation sells renewable energy credits to utility company

The Navajo Nation is selling $220,000 in renewable energy credits to the Salt River Project of Arizona.

The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority will use the money to buy solar- and wind-power systems for remote parts of the reservation. "They are in high demand," Terry Battiest, a renewable-energy engineer, told The Arizona Republic of the systems.

SRP is buying the credits to meet its renewable energy goals.
