Voters of Quechan Nation go to polls to decide fate of president

Voters of the Quechan Nation go to the polls today to decide the fate of President Keeny Escalanti.

Escalanti was elected last June. He was the first new president of the tribe since 1995.

A year into his first term, Escalanti was hit with a recall petition. "Maybe they have a different idea of how the government should be run,” he told The Yuma Sun of his critics.

Escalanti previously served as vice president and on the tribal council.
