A federal magistrate denied bond to a man accused of assaulting a boy from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe who later died. Anthony Bennett, 20, has been charged with assaulting Carnel Chamberlain, 4, sometime in late May or early June. The boy's mother, Jaimee Chamberlain, reportedly witnessed instances of abuse and was also threatened by Bennett, according to news reports. Carnel was last seen alive on June 21 when he was in the care of Bennett. His badly burned body was found a week later under Chamberlain's home on the reservation.
