BIA investigates death of baby girl on Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is investigating the death of a two-month-old girl on the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation in North Dakota.

Deborah Kaye Anderson died on Saturday in the home of her mother, The Fargo Forum reported. Family members reported instances of abuse and neglect to the tribe and county authorities but nothing seems to have happened because the woman is not enrolled.

“They’ve been trying to get these kids taken away for a long time,” Cheryl Good Iron told the Forum. “Nobody did anything about it. They never got any help from anybody.”

The status of the woman's other children isn't known, the paper said.
