Narragansett Tribe looking to talk land-into-trust with governor

The Narragansett Tribe wants to discuss land-into-trust issues with Gov. Lincoln Chafee (I).

The tribe lost the right to follow the land-into-trust process as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar. The ruling found that the tribe wasn't "under federal jurisdiction" as of 1934.

Separately, a state law requires the state to oppose the tribe's land-into-trust applications.
