New charges, including murder, filed in growing Native Mob case

The Department of Justice announced new charges, including murder, in a growing case against members of the Native Mob gang.

Authorities said Shawn Michael Martinez shot and killed fellow gang member Jeremee Kraskey on February 26, 2011. "The premeditated murder was purportedly committed to keep Kraskey from offering law enforcement information and in retaliation for a mistaken belief that he had already provided information to law enforcement about the gang’s activities," the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minnesota said in a press release.

Martinez had help from Wakinyon Wakan McArthur and Christopher Lee Wuori, two other gang members, according to prosecutors. New charges were filed against the latter two men in connection with a shooting on March 4, 2010.

"The superseding indictment also states that McArthur and Wuori aided and abetted attempted murder on March 4, 2010, when they tried to kill a man by shooting him three times with a .40-caliber handgun while he held his five-year-old daughter," the press release stated.

Two other gang members were previously charged in connection with the same shooting.

The Native Mob operates on the White Earth, Mille Lacs, and Leech Lake reservations and in surrounding areas.

So far, 25 people have been charged in connection with various crimes, including drug charges against the newest defendant, Jesus Thomas Ali, according to the indictment.
