CBC News: Dying for an Education - The case of Charlie Wenjack

CBC News has published a special report about Charlie Wenjack, a Native boy who died in 1966 while attending a residential school in Ontario. He was 12 years old at the time.

Although the province convened an inquiry into the death, Wenjack's family feels it was insufficient. Wenjack's father wasn't allowed to attend and there were no Native people on the jury.

"When that inquiry was going to be on, they didn't want my dad there," Daisy Munroe told CBC. "They said he was going to cause trouble."

The case has taken on significance in light of a new inquiry into the circumstances of seven Native students who died while attending school in Ontario from 2000 through 2011.
