Hopi Tribe passes resolution opposing Navajo Nation business

Leaders of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona passed a resolution that opposes a proposed Navajo Nation tourist attraction.

Hopi Chairman Herman G. Honanie said the Grand Canyon Escalade, a project that includes a tramway to carry tourists to the floor of the Grand Canyon National Park, poses a threat to sacred sites.

"[I]t will significantly and forever adversely impact Hopi sacred places to which Hopis have aboriginal title and use," Honanie told Lake Powell Life.

Environmental groups are also opposing the project.
