Tribes donated $400K to 2012 Democratic National Convention

Four tribes donated a total of $400,000 for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, the Associated Press reports.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, the Muckleshoot Tribe and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation each gave $100,000, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The AP story appears to treat the tribal donations the same as corporate donations even though tribes are governments.

The convention took place in North Carolina in September.
