Gila River Indian Community donates $30K for local campaign

The Gila River Indian Community is getting involved in a local election in Glendale, Arizona.

The tribe donated $30,000 to a group called Neighbors for a Better Glendale, The Phoenix Business Journal reported. The money is being used to defeat Proposition 457, which would rescind a tax increase in the city.

The tribe, the city council and the police and firefighter unions are opposing Proposition 457. They say the tax increase is needed to fund services and keep programs going.

The tribe is also siding with the city in a lawsuit against the Tohono O'odham Nation casino.
