Tribal cross-commissions agreement in New Mexico renewed

A cross-commissioning agreement between the state of New Mexico and tribes has been renewed.

The agreement allows state and tribal police to make arrests in Indian Country. It expired 10 months ago, leaving some communities without adequate protection.

"There was a window where we were not effecting tribal enforcement," said Maj. Darren Soland of the New Mexico State Police told The Farmington Daily Times.

The agreement covers the Navajo Nation and the state's Pueblo tribes.
