Warm Springs Tribes battle high rates of crime on reservation

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon are working to battle high rates of crime on the reservation.

With a population of a little more than 5,000, the reservation suffers from the highest per capita crime rates in the state, The Oregonian reported. Included are at least a dozen child sexual abuse cases every year, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

To address the problem, a task force of tribal and federal officials developed the Child Abuse Intervention Center, the second of its kind in Indian Country. The facility was dedicated on Monday.

"We are not a tribe without our children," Cecelia Collins, the tribe's juvenile prosecutor, told the Oregonian.
