Democrat Jon Tester wins re-election bid for Senate in Montana

Democrat Jon Tester defeated Republican Denny Rehberg for U.S. Senate in Montana.

The race was one of the most closely-watched in the nation. Tester was able to beat back a strong challenge from Rehberg, according to the Montana Secretary of State.

Both candidates have supported tribes in their state. Tester is a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and Rehberg sits on the House Appropriations Committee and has sat on the House Natural Resources Committee in prior sessions of Congress.

Both sponsored water rights settlements for tribes in Montana. And both were backers of the late Elouise Cobell, the lead plaintiff in the Indian trust fund lawsuit.
