Leaford Bearskin, Wyandotte Nation leader, passes away at 91


Leaford Bearskin, the chief of the Wyandotte Nation, died on Friday. He was 91.

Bearskin led his tribe since 1983. Among his many achievements was the successful restoration of the tribe's land base in Oklahoma and Kansas.

Bearskin fought in World War II and in the Korean War. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Medal for Humane Action, among other honors, for his service.

Visitation takes place on Wednesday at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Funeral services will be on Thursday at the Bearskin Wellness Center Gym.
